These two presentations are both very important. The Working Group’s report has not been widely disseminated in the progressive movement. The section on the US is a powerful and very important international indictment of the historic and present US crimes against people of African descent, with very concrete proposals for addressing these extreme human rights violations.

And we must get the medical care for Mumia and the thousands of other prisoners who are being denied the available cure.

PROGRAM:

  • Mireille Fanon-Mendès-France
Will report on the recently completed five-year project of the United Nations Human Rights Council Work Group on the Rights of People of African Descent which she chaired. She will focus on the powerful and very critical section reviewing US practices in dealing with people of African descent. The report offers proposals to remedy these practices and the resulting culture of white supremacy in this country.

  • Pam Africa
Will give a presentation on the significance of the outrageous decision by Judge Robert Mariani to deny Mumia the medication he and thousands of other inmates need for their Hep C infection. She will discuss the importance of Judge Mariani’s concession that the non-treatment of prisoners is unconstitutional, even though he chose not to do anything about it! Long-term plans will be proposed, and commitments to take on work will be much welcomed!
