On April 29, 2006, a newly constructed street in Saint-Denis, (a town of 100,000 bordering Paris), was named Rue Mumia Abu-Jamal. In attendance in the street naming ceremony was the mayor, deputy mayors, representatives of International Concerned Family and Friends of Mumia Abu-Jamal, Free Mumia Abu-Jamal Coalition (NYC), and a large and very diverse group of individuals and organizations from France and the Caribbean.

In response, the US House of Representatives passed a resolution condemning the city of Saint-Denis, France for naming a street in Honor of Mumia.
